NEUTRALS
2020 seems to be the beginning of years of “neutrals” where for neutrals we mean suiting, calm colours and no necessarily beige. Backgrounds of off-whites, light greys, earthy ochres will be the base of colour palettes that will aim to bring harmony with the space and the light. The key word will be “layering” which refers to using our warm natural colours as base and using different textures and materials to add to the design of the room.

Wood is the material to best represent this trend and Japanese aesthetic seems to become stronger and stronger in the design scene. “Natural materials, used in simple forms, reinforce a feeling of purity that is at the core of this style.” says Michelle Lamb, editorial director at The Trend Curve. And we can use wood from flooring, to a piece of furniture to walls’ panels to kitchen doors.

Another material we notice more and more in neutrals design is the Tedelakt plaster, a waterproof and decorative material with its origin in Marrakesh. Tedelakt has a smooth, honed surface that resemble natural stone. The beauty of this material is that you can select your own pigment and use it everywhere in the room, from the floor to the walls, to the ceiling to furniture. An alternative to Tedelakt could be any plaster surface with the natural and concrete look. Specialists in plaster, like Ruscigno, will be able to create the effect desired.
